Personal:

I'm a junior at Hurricane High School. I love music. I sing in the chamber choir and I play the piano and the guitar. Other sports that I love include basketball, soccer, and racquetball. By the way, if anyone's up for a game of racquetball, I'm game! Anyways, gotta run...

Thanks for all the advice!  So according to what you guys are saying I should be running around 60 miles a week up until a few weeks before state and I should keep my speed training throughout the summer.  And that I should push the hard days and keep the easy days really easy.  I'm thinking maybe I will build up a really strong mileage base over the summer while weightlifting and cross-training at the same time.  Anyone know how to coordinate weightlifting and cross-training with mileage?  I have a membership at Gold's Gym and I usually workout and play racquetball and swim laps about 3 times a week.  How should I coordinate that with my workout schedule?  Do I workout on hard days or easy days or on long run days or speed days?

Also, since I really only mainly care about state, when should I begin changing my workouts in order to peak at state?

In college, we did our weightlifting on our recovery day or easy day.

So I guess I’m an activist at heart. I noticed we’ve only had 13 votes but 144 views and there are more of you out there. I know some people don’t use the discussion board of the blog so I’m posting this comment on everyone’s blog that has updated in the last few days or so to bring your attention to both the discussion section and the mileage board. Please read the discussion here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,324.0.html) and then vote here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,348.0.html) if you have an opinion. If you already voted, I am sorry about the “spam.” Thank you!

Good job at state, and I can't wait to watch you in xc. I didn't do so well in state because my coach only let me run four miles a day, with 200s on speed days. But oh well, I'll try to catch up for xc, where I have a different coach. Good luck!
